Mr. Whitelaw Reid to Sir Edward Grey.-(Received December 23.) Sir,
American Embassy, London, December 22, 1910. WITH reference to the note which you were good enough to address to me on the 1st instant regarding the steps proposed by His Majesty's Government to obtain the necessary information as to the trade in morphia and cocaine in the United Kingdom, I have the honour to state that I hastened to bring this matter to the attention of my Government, from whom I am now in receipt of a reply advising me that the Governments interested in the forthcoming Opium Conference have been informed of the action taken by His Majesty's Government in accordance with its proposal that there should be a preliminary study of the manufacture and trade in morphia and cocaine before the conference.
